Howdy all,
I hope that everyone's Summer has been great-- Labor Day and the Fall are just around the corner.
(Down here in Georgia, school started two weeks ago, so we're already somewhat back into the normal patterns).
Ever notice that everything seems to operate at a slower speed July and August?
In about a week, it will start ramping back up. (and it won't stop till the middle of December when everything comes to a screeching halt till the second week of January)
[Ed. Note: This is for the US, in Europe they don't get geared up again till almost February and then they start dreaming of Summer Holidays, which vary by country but if you assume that they'll be off and/or distracted from April through about mid-October you should be safe :-) Actually, this is getting better in some places as they are forced to compete with the ex-Communist Eastern countries who want to work and get ahead.]
Fall is a very important time of the year for business owners (and employees who want to rise in their companies) to get things done and launch new initiatives.
Why do I say that?
Because Summer offers an excuse for putting off the start of a new project or for coasting. We tend to go into a "Summer mentality" and things slow down, and we think this is normal. And to a large extent, there are good reasons why things slow down:
- A lot of people in a business are on vacation and they put off decisions till everyone can get together and talk;
- The budget was spent in the first half of the year; The excitement of the fresh New Year is now completely wore off and those resolutions have been abandoned (ready to make a brief comeback in late Dec/early Jan);
- The kids are home, the weather is nice, it is good to get some balance and some "downtime";
- This year the Olympics are on (and they were awesome).
But the Summer is ending... and the Fall is almost here.
And with the Fall comes great opportunity... (yes young grasshopper...)
Since so many things in business are geared to the calendar year, there are decisions being made in the Sept-Nov time frame that greatly affects what they will be focusing on for the next TWELVE MONTHS. The window is open. You have a great chance during September, October, and November to POSITION YOURSELF for a huge amount of success in 2009.
(Or a chance to miss another year and complain that your projects are put on the back burner.)
As an example, remember those budgets that we talked about above, the ones for 2009 are often set during the Fall.
Are you positioning your project in next years budget? If not, it might not happen.
If you are in the field of personal growth, or really anything that helps people improve their lives, their fortunes, their happiness...
...why not get ready to take advantage of the fact that everyone else is setting NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS? Start work now on a specific campaign tied to that fact (ready to "enter into the conversation inside your customer's mind" as Robert Collier taught). And be ready to come out a-blazin' with both barrels in mid December when "Resoluton Fever" hits...
Why not identify NOW, in the week leading up to LABOR DAY, exactly what it is that you are laboring for? what kind of life do you envision for yourself?
And make your Fall Resolutions as to what you are going to accomplish in very detailed terms over this next three months. Imagine the projects that will give you the greatest payback and satisfaction to have completed, and imagine them done and you are celebrating the Holidays with your family with a renewed sense of confidence and achievement.
Why wait till December to start making your plans? Make your FALL RESOLUTIONS now, and you won't waste the next three months that are the springboard to a great 2009!
Because as famous hippie-type with a weird wife John Lennon said, "life isn't a rehearsal." And none of us are getting any younger.
Get out that legal pad and start writing your....FALL RESOLUTIONS! Just do it. You have until Labor Day (Sept 1 this year) to have them written. (Some of mine are below)
With warm regards,
Rob Northrup
Is Your Corporation Protecting You?
I am looking forward to spending Thanksgiving (with my family up in Minnesota!) with the following accomplished:
- Advanced Extrusion Solutions, my ten year old manufacturers rep firm going gangbusters (we are expanding this business into a new and promising area this Fall, and I am excited about the possibilities);
- Corporate Veil Pro launched and generating sales and satisifed customers, and working on the next two steps in the Basecamp Publishing Inc."empire" :-);
- my latest venture with Steve Chambers, Bold Calling launched and successfully helping sales pros to re-energize their sales lives with our program and Monthly "actionpacks";
- And I look forward to working with Sunny Carlson (business insurance consultant), Sheridan Randolph (talented copywriter), and Matt Shields (energy consulting and cost control) in ways that help both sides of the equation...
And I want to get the groundwork set now for a project with one of my mentors Kevin Hogan in 2009.
In adition, I look forward to the Kevin Hogan Breakout '08 and Platinum mastermind meeting in Vegas in October, and the Dan Kennedy Info Marketing Summit in November (Steve is joining me at that one).
Driving home I noticed a dust covered Corvette in a driveway. this started the train of thought, the toy matters not, it is the joy it brought.
I hope I don't give my child so many toys he loses the joy of them.
Tim
how would you look? What condition are we in?
Analogies get you thinking.
Joints are creaking, floor is sagging, and paint is a bit faded.
What do you do about it?
Call in a Contractor to get bids. Figure the price and what you can afford.
Personally I start with taking the garbage out.
Start.
Weather is brutal here. In Arizona we talk about the days under 100, not over.
I drive a disable vet from the Marines around. Call it volunteering or whatever.
The cooling was off in the Vets aptartment for five days. Guessing a lawsuit will occur.
Today he looked bad, took him to his doctor's office. Doc says 'Diabetic dehydrated go to hospital'
Had to call 911 myself. Love those helpful people.
He is in the hospital last I heard.
Kinda puts life in perspective. (Lose weight eat right and excercise)

Hi Everyone...
Sales Pro Steve Chambers and I just spent a couple of days at my house in Atlanta and we recorded over 7 hours of fresh content this weekend for our new course for Salespeople-- "Bold Calling".
We also had a BBQ-palooza Saturday night but only as a reward for a lot of focused effort! (Maybe I'll give out my very own Unbelievable Memphis Ribs recipe as a free extra Bonus to anyone buying our program, it's foolproof and easy, it just takes about 7 hours)
We are both very happy with the way it turned out (both the Bold Calling program and the BBQ!) There is an energy you get when working together in person that you just can't duplicate over the phone. And this is true about face-to-face selling as well. Do you feel like your sales calls are crackling with energy? Would you enjoy life more if they were more "alive"? I think we can help you enjoy sales calls more and this means your customers will want to see you more... and that means more commissions…
Even after recording for seven hours. there is so much more that we have to share...clearly we won't be running out of fresh actionable content anytime soon, and there is new stuff happening every day. (Sign up now at www.Boldcalls.com for our Free Weekly Action Item or Sales Tip)
Steve and I are both experienced salespeople and have grown tired of the fake-sales people on the Internet spreading lies and half-truths about selling. For example, you can't make it in sales working FOUR HOURS A WEEK, and many products are darn near impossible to sell over the Internet while you lounge on the beach in Tahiti.
(It is possible for "sales gurus" to make money selling sales training and advice from the beach in Tahiti, maybe that is why they are confused.)
But most sales pros are selling in the real world. Like Steve and I who get up every morning and head out into the real world where real customers live. Sure we use the phone and the email and even the fax sometimes, but we also use the gasoline pump to propel us into face-to-face contact with live, breathing human beings. And you know what? Sometimes we uncover things that they wouldn't have mentioned on the phone... Profitable things that are good for both them and us...
The fact is that for many (most? all?) B2B applications, the key is effective FACE-TO-FACE communications. (Also true for a lot of consumer selling). You probably know that this is true deep-down, but the fantasy is so appealing-- who doesn't dream of reward without effort? But you need to do what works not what makes you feel good. And there is no MAGIC PILL for sales...
The problem with the anti-Cold Calling crowd is that you need to identify your prospects before you can market to them and try to attract them to you. The contact name is often elusive. That's where Attitude and "Bold Calling" comes into play...
Go to www.BoldCalls.com to sign up and get information about our course which will launch soon (probably around Labor Day). We will also be sending a weekly tip that you can do immediately in some cases to TURBO-CHARGE your sales week! No cost, no risk, no spam...
We are almost "done" with the Bold Calling system! We blocked out the time, we got together, we stayed on task, and now we feel great about what we've been able to accomplish these past few days. All we have are a few Bonus Reports and some cleanup, and we're rollin'...
Go sign up now and we'll keep you informed of our progress. We will be building a community of sales pros who want to use todays technology and apply it to Accelerate their Sales Success! And we will have a monthly CD where we interview a Sales Pro and find new and exciting sales techniques... Our first two Interviews are with Gary May and Eliot Hoppe and we'll be getting those done in the next few weeks, both of those guys are great!
We hope to BOLDLY GO where no salesman has gone before and to share tips and techniques along the way!
Be Bold,

Kevin Hogan would probably agree with it in spirit if not word. Done is the operative word.
"What did you 'do' today?" translate to what did you get done?
Avoid the human doing versus human being trap.
Well back to the check list!

Good luck to all of you on this special LUCKY DAY, and I hope everyone enjoys the Olympics. It is so motivating to watch people who have trained for years to compete for mere seconds. Find time to watch some of these focused and talented individuals, and be inspired!
