Howdy all,
I hope that everyone's Summer has been great-- Labor Day and the Fall are just around the corner.
(Down here in Georgia, school started two weeks ago, so we're already somewhat back into the normal patterns).
Ever notice that everything seems to operate at a slower speed July and August?
In about a week, it will start ramping back up. (and it won't stop till the middle of December when everything comes to a screeching halt till the second week of January)
[Ed. Note: This is for the US, in Europe they don't get geared up again till almost February and then they start dreaming of Summer Holidays, which vary by country but if you assume that they'll be off and/or distracted from April through about mid-October you should be safe :-) Actually, this is getting better in some places as they are forced to compete with the ex-Communist Eastern countries who want to work and get ahead.]
Fall is a very important time of the year for business owners (and employees who want to rise in their companies) to get things done and launch new initiatives.
Why do I say that?
Because Summer offers an excuse for putting off the start of a new project or for coasting. We tend to go into a "Summer mentality" and things slow down, and we think this is normal. And to a large extent, there are good reasons why things slow down:
- A lot of people in a business are on vacation and they put off decisions till everyone can get together and talk;
- The budget was spent in the first half of the year; The excitement of the fresh New Year is now completely wore off and those resolutions have been abandoned (ready to make a brief comeback in late Dec/early Jan);
- The kids are home, the weather is nice, it is good to get some balance and some "downtime";
- This year the Olympics are on (and they were awesome).
But the Summer is ending... and the Fall is almost here.
And with the Fall comes great opportunity... (yes young grasshopper...)
Since so many things in business are geared to the calendar year, there are decisions being made in the Sept-Nov time frame that greatly affects what they will be focusing on for the next TWELVE MONTHS. The window is open. You have a great chance during September, October, and November to POSITION YOURSELF for a huge amount of success in 2009.
(Or a chance to miss another year and complain that your projects are put on the back burner.)
As an example, remember those budgets that we talked about above, the ones for 2009 are often set during the Fall.
Are you positioning your project in next years budget? If not, it might not happen.
If you are in the field of personal growth, or really anything that helps people improve their lives, their fortunes, their happiness...
...why not get ready to take advantage of the fact that everyone else is setting NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS? Start work now on a specific campaign tied to that fact (ready to "enter into the conversation inside your customer's mind" as Robert Collier taught). And be ready to come out a-blazin' with both barrels in mid December when "Resoluton Fever" hits...
Why not identify NOW, in the week leading up to LABOR DAY, exactly what it is that you are laboring for? what kind of life do you envision for yourself?
And make your Fall Resolutions as to what you are going to accomplish in very detailed terms over this next three months. Imagine the projects that will give you the greatest payback and satisfaction to have completed, and imagine them done and you are celebrating the Holidays with your family with a renewed sense of confidence and achievement.
Why wait till December to start making your plans? Make your FALL RESOLUTIONS now, and you won't waste the next three months that are the springboard to a great 2009!
Because as famous hippie-type with a weird wife John Lennon said, "life isn't a rehearsal." And none of us are getting any younger.
Get out that legal pad and start writing your....FALL RESOLUTIONS! Just do it. You have until Labor Day (Sept 1 this year) to have them written. (Some of mine are below)
With warm regards,
Rob Northrup
Is Your Corporation Protecting You?
I am looking forward to spending Thanksgiving (with my family up in Minnesota!) with the following accomplished:
- Advanced Extrusion Solutions, my ten year old manufacturers rep firm going gangbusters (we are expanding this business into a new and promising area this Fall, and I am excited about the possibilities);
- Corporate Veil Pro launched and generating sales and satisifed customers, and working on the next two steps in the Basecamp Publishing Inc."empire" :-);
- my latest venture with Steve Chambers, Bold Calling launched and successfully helping sales pros to re-energize their sales lives with our program and Monthly "actionpacks";
- And I look forward to working with Sunny Carlson (business insurance consultant), Sheridan Randolph (talented copywriter), and Matt Shields (energy consulting and cost control) in ways that help both sides of the equation...
And I want to get the groundwork set now for a project with one of my mentors Kevin Hogan in 2009.
In adition, I look forward to the Kevin Hogan Breakout '08 and Platinum mastermind meeting in Vegas in October, and the Dan Kennedy Info Marketing Summit in November (Steve is joining me at that one).

Driving home I noticed a dust covered Corvette in a driveway. this started the train of thought, the toy matters not, it is the joy it brought.
I hope I don't give my child so many toys he loses the joy of them.
Tim
how would you look? What condition are we in?
Analogies get you thinking.
Joints are creaking, floor is sagging, and paint is a bit faded.
What do you do about it?
Call in a Contractor to get bids. Figure the price and what you can afford.
Personally I start with taking the garbage out.
Start.

Sleep Apnea in Detail:
Sleep apnea is a health condition far more serious than what most would think of. Sleep apnea is a health condition that happens when one's breathing during sleep stop for a while, usually 10 seconds or even longer. Sleep apnea could happen 5 to 45 times per hour.
Sleep apnea is usually associated with choking sensations and often leads to headaches and sleepiness during the day. Its moderateness or severity is measured with respect to the frequency of episodes per hour, whether you have no breathing (apnea) or slower breathing (hyponea).
Sleep apnea occurs mostly but not limited to men and not specific to any age group. Loud snoring is usually associated with apnea. People with high blood pressure and obese are most likely to developed sleep apnea. Problems in the nose, throat, and air passageway can also cause sleep apnea. Early detection of sleep apnea is very important since it is usually implies an underlying health conditions such as heart problems.
In some cases, apnea happen when the muscles in the throat & tongue relax when one is sleeping, which eventually lead to blockage of the air passageway to some varying degree. Then breathing becomes noisier, slow, or even stop for a while. Obese people have great possibilities of having sleep apnea since they have more tissue in the airway that makes it narrow for normal breathing.
Sleep apnea makes an active person feel sleepy in the morning and affects their concentration in work. Severe sleep apnea could lead to depression, memory loses, irritability, and other negative socio-psychological conditions. Sleep apnea could increase the risk of having a heart attack, high blood pressure and even stroke. One should suspect having a sleep apnea disorder when the following conditions occur:
1. Heavy snoring during sleep while struggling to breath. This is usually monitored by the spouse or room mate.
2. Co-workers noticing one's lack of concentration at work and falling to sleep frequently.
3. Headaches upon waking up from sleep.
4. Frequent urination at night.
5. Heartburn during the night.
6. Frequent changing in sleep position restlessly.
7. Night time choking episodes.
